Schools in Uganda have been closed again due to rising COVID-19 cases. The children and young people will be staying at home for at least 42 days. Public transport is heavily restricted, and additional measures are in place to contain the spread of COVID-19. A development similar to the recent surge in India must be avoided at all costs—we very much hope this can be achieved.
Help for a Smile e.V. is therefore providing short-term support for the purchase of additional beds and water tanks for the community shelter, where some of the young people are staying, as space at Irene’s home is limited for more than 20 people.
Let us hope that, as part of the G7 meeting, poorer countries will be promised one billion vaccine doses so that the pandemic can be contained worldwide.
The photo was taken about a week ago when Irene took the children and teens to school (boarding school).
