Petra’s trip to Uganda: Inspiring despite the detours

Sometimes things don’t go to plan: on Petra and Ines’s trip to Uganda, this happened on more than one occasion. Ines was unable to set off on her trip at the beginning of January for family reasons. Petra, for her part, was initially stranded in Brussels due to heavy snow – and then, in Uganda, the vehicle sent to pick them up broke down with engine trouble.

But they overcame every obstacle. The trip proved to be extremely inspiring: during the visit to the Rainbow House of Hope in Kampala, there was a valuable exchange of ideas and plenty of inspiration for our project. Via Kampala and a brief visit to Gloria, the journey finally led to Mbale.

There, Petra enjoyed warm encounters with the children and in-depth, trusting conversations with Derrick, Amon, Fiona and Edith. A real highlight was the workshop at the Education Centre with the young people. Their contributions, ideas and the clearly palpable willingness to get involved left a lasting impression. Participation is already a reality here – and may now be developed even more consciously.

“Every day was valuable, but working with the young people moved me particularly deeply,” says Petra.

We would like to thank Petra very much for her wonderful voluntary commitment!
